    Depart for Colombo
    Today you board your flight for Colombo.

    Day 02
    Arrive Colombo - Hotel - Muneeshwaram Temple
    Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport. Transfer to the hotel in North West Province area. In the afternoon proceed to visit the Muneeshwaram Temple and Mannavari Temple. Manavari is the first place where Lord Rama installed the Siva Lingam and prayed after the end of the war with King Ravana.

    Day 03
    Pinnawala - Habarana
    After an early breakfast, proceed to visit the Elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala. A home for about 90 elephants, out of which some are baby elephants, found abandoned or orphaned in the wild. Continue onto Habarana. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

    Day 04
    Habarana - Anuradhapura - Mihintale - Habarana
    After breakfast proceed on a sightseeing tour of Anuradhapura. Anuradhapura was the first capital of Sri Lanka and undoubtedly the grandest city of the ancient Ceylon, visit the archaeological sites in Anuradhapura, the Sri Maha Bodhi (Sacred Bo-Tre). Over 2000 years old it is said to be the oldest historically documented tree in the world. Under this tree, Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment. Also, visit the Isurmuniya rock temple and Mihintale. Return to hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

    Day 05
    Habarana - Polonnaruwa – Sigiriya - Habarana
    Today drive towards Polonnaruwa to visit the ruins of the Royal Palace and Gal Viharaya to view the statues of Buddha and of King Parakumbahu. Also, monuments of worship such as the Shiva Temple, Lankathi lake, Watadage, Galpotha, Kiri Vehera and the remains of a former Temple of the Tooth Relic. Visit a wood carving factory. In the afternoon return to Sigiriya and climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress which is a world heritage site, known as The ‘Lion Rock’. Visit the world renowned frescos of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya. (You have to walk up about more than 200 steps to see the frescos. All natural steps are safe to walk). Afterwards visit a Batik Factory where you can see the manufacture of beautiful Batik prints. Return to the hotel in the evening.

    Day 06
    Habarana - Dambulla - Matale - Kandy
    Today visit Dambulla cave temples, world heritage site, and the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples - caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and ceilings containing 150 images of the Buddha. Later visit the spice garden in Matale. Drive to Kandy to visit a gem factory to see artisans in a workroom cutting and polishing the gems found in Sri Lanka. Visit the Kandy Garrison cemetery, well maintained garden cemetery, founded in 1817 for the internment of British-era colonists and managed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Witness a cultural show.

    Day 07
    Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
    Today visit Temple of the Tooth Relic before been transfer to Peradeniya railway station for your train journey to Nanu Oya. Transfer to the hotel and in the afternoon, take a city tour of Nuwara Eliya known as “Little England”, Visit the Gayathri Pe(e)dam, this is believed to be the place from  where King Ravana’s son Meghanath propitiated Lord Shiva with penance and pooja’s and in turn was granted super natural powers by lord Shiva. Later visit to the tea plantation, a tea factory and enjoy a cup of pure Ceylon tea.

    Day 08
    Nuwara Eliya - Bandarawela - Tangalle

    After breakfast, we start our visit to Sita Amman Temple, Ashok Vatica, Sita Eliya. The Sita Amman Temple, located halfway between the highland village Sita Eliya and the Hakgala Botanical Gardens, has become the most venerated of all Ramayana Trail sites in Sri Lanka, because it is believed to be the place where Sitalived most of the time of her captivity on the island of Lanka. After she refused to stay in Ravana's magnificent palace she was transferred to AshokVatika or Ashokavanam where she lived under Ashoka trees. It was here that Ravana's wife Mandodari visited her and that Hanuman met her for the first time, identifying himself with the finger ring of Rama. We continue the trail today visiting  the Divurumpola Temple.This is the place where Seetha Devi underwent “Agni Pariksha” (test). It is a popular place of worship among locals in this area. Divurumpola means place of oath in Sinhala. The legal system permits and accepts the swearing done at this temple while settling disputes between parties. We continue on to the palace where Sita is believed to have bathed in the nearby stream. There are remarkable holes in the rocks at the river bank believed to be footprints of Lord Hanuman. Ravana waterfall measures approximately 25 m (82 ft) in height and cascades from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop. During the local wet season, the waterfall turns into what is said to resemble an area flower with withering petals. But this is not the case in the dry season,where the flow of water reduces dramatically. Thereafter leave for Tangalle. Dinner and overnight stay at the Hotel.

    Day 09
    Tangalle - Ahangama - Galle - Negombo
    Today we drive towards Galle to visit Galle Dutch Fort, the stilt fisherman in Ahangama and visit the Hoo-maniya blow hole on route. Proceed to Negombo – Katunayake. Dinner and overnight stay at the Hotel.

    Day 10
    Colombo City Tour
    After breakfast have a half day city tour of Colombo visit the Anjaneyar Temple. This is the first Anjaneyar Temple in Sri Lanka and also the only Panchamuga (five faced) Anjaneyar Temple in Sri Lanka. It’s the only temple in the world to have a chariot for Anjanyear. The chariot festival is held annually end December to beginning of January. Rest of the day at leisure to relax and enjoy the resort.

    Month of Travel - What is the best time to travel?

    Every effort has been made to select date where the weather is moderate to ensure your best experience of Sri Lanka. (Kindly note due to changing weather conditions globally, Sonatours are not liable for weather variations).  

    Clothes - What clothes shall I wear or pack?

    A: During the lovely summer months, it is advisable to wear light garments during the day but keep a light jacket or sweater in your hand luggage as evenings can get chilly. 
    A: It is recommended a family sized umbrella, rain wear, pair of sunglasses.
    A: During the holiday most of the dressing is casual attire. Should you independently wish to visit Casino or Nightclub, evening wear is required. 
    A: Certain places require you to be ‘covered’ up when visiting religious places. 

    Footwear - What kind of footwear will I need on the trip?

    We suggest trainers, walking shoes, sandals, chappals or similar.

    Passport - Do I need to carry a passport?

    Yes, all passengers must travel with their passport if traveling outside the country you live in.

    Passports validity - How long should the passport be valid?

    Please ensure you have a passport that is valid for 6 months from the date of completing your tour.

    Visa - Do I need a visa?

    You are responsible to make sure that you have correct visa prior to travel. Sona Tours is not responsible or liable in any way should you be denied travel due to incorrect documentation. British passport holders require to obtain a visa prior to arrival in Sri Lanka. The details will be sent to you at a later date.
    Should you be travelling on any other passport please do check with the Sri Lankan Embassy or High Commission in country of your residence.

    Immigration - What happens to me if I am stopped at custom and immigration?

    Sona Tours cannot be held responsible if passengers are stopped or held by any government departments, e.g. Police, Customs, Immigration or any other authorities. We are sorry to say that the tour will continue and no financial or any other kind of responsibility will be accepted by Sona Tours.

    Mode of Transport - Pick up point - What time do I need to be at my point?

    All flight tours originating in the UK require that you be at the airport for your flight at least 3 hours prior to your flight time. Your final itinerary confirmation will confirm the time you need to be at the airport. Should you miss your flight Sona Tours will not be liable for any costs incurred for you to join the tour. The office will make every effort to assist you in such circumstances.
    Please be on time as we cannot be held responsible or liable for any loss or expense suffered if you miss the coach or flight. 
    If you have booked the tour without flights, please meet the group at the hotel. Details will be sent to you at a later date. Please do check with the office as you might need to book a hotel before the tour starts and after it finishes.

    Flight Upgrade - Are upgrades available?

    On long haul flight tours upgrade to your flights is possible. Please advise the office at the time of booking to get the best possible price.

    Type of transportation - What type of coach will I be travelling in?

    There are no on-board restrooms (W.C.) while travelling internally by coach. However, we will be making frequent comfort stops.
    The high vantage point from your coach’s window means you can take in all the glorious scenery, whether it’s a vast-rural landscape or an urban city centre. On a touring holiday there are some long journeys which are unavoidable especially when travelling from city to city.

    Seat allocation for flight - Can I select my seats on the aeroplane?

    International and internal flight bookings are booked as a group and the airlines will allocate the seats. Should you have a specific request it will be forwarded to the airline but cannot be guaranteed.

    Seat allocation for coach - Can I select my seats on the coach?

    We have a strict seat rotation policy when travelling by coaches on all our international tours. 

    Smoking in coach - What is the smoking and alcohol policy while travelling by coach?

    There is a strict policy of “no smoking, no alcohol and no smelly food” on all our coaches. We do, however, make plenty of comfort stops.

    Luggage - What are the luggage requirements on the aeroplane?

    A: Different airlines will have different requirements on the weight allowance. It can range from 20 - 30 kg for your main luggage and 5kg for hand luggage. We do advice you to travel light. This information will be on your e-ticket once the tickets been issued. 
    A: It is advisable to put your name and address on each piece of luggage as many passengers have similar bags to avoid delays and confusion. 
    Should there be any reasons your baggage is lost or is late please contact the tour manger or the airline staff at the airport.
    We recommend that you not travel with expensive personal items while on the holiday. However, any personal valuables lost or stolen, you must report it to the tour guide, or in the absence of a tour guide to the local police or hotel. Sona Tours cannot accept any responsibility for your personal belongings.

    Buggies and Car Seat - Can I carry Buggies and Car Seat during the tour?

    If your child requires a booster/child seat, please carry your own.

    Money Matters - What is the currency used?

    The currency in Sri Lanka is Sri Lanka Rupee. 
    If you need more local currency when abroad, we recommend that you exchange money at a bank rather than at hotels as they will charge high commission rates. You may also need your passport for identification as you would for traveller's cheques.

    Credit / Debit card - Can I use my Credit / Debit cards there?

    We recommend that you take a credit or debit card on holiday with you, as it provides extra financial flexibility. Major international credit cards, such as Visa or MasterCard are accepted by many restaurants, shops and hotels. 
    Most countries are using chip and pin. In cases where chip and pin not used please be cautious when handing your debit / credit card.

    ATM - Are ATM machines available?

    Major cities will have cash/ATM machines where cash can be withdrawn with your credit or debit card, though this might incur a fee charged by your card provider. Advise your bank which countries you are visiting prior to travel so that you don’t run the risk of your card being refused and subsequent expensive phone calls to unlock it.

    Where can I exchange my money?

    Money can be exchanged at Airports, Banks, Exchange Bureaus and at the hotels.  You may also need your passport for identification as you would for traveller's cheques. keep in mind the exchange rate may be poor and commission will be charged.

    WIFI - Is WIFI freely available?

    Most hotels will have WIFI available in the public areas. It is usually chargeable in the rooms; this can vary from Hotel to Hotel. 

    SIM - Do I need to get a local SIM card?

    Usually it is not necessary, should you require one kindly speak to your Tour manager/Local guide for assistance

    Medication - Should I bring all my medication with me?

    Please travel with all your necessary medication for the duration of your trip including your prescription / doctors report confirming the medication. 

    Electric adapter and chargers - Should I bring any electric outlet adapter and charger for my electronics?

    Electrical currents vary Globally. We recommend that you carry a universal adapter and your electronic charges for your convenience and comfort.

    Vaccination - Do I need any vaccinations?

    For further information on vaccinations please check the above websites or https://www.iamat.org  or contact your medical doctor for recent updates.

    Unwell on tour - What happens if I am unwell during the tour?

    Should you feel unwell during the trip, kindly contact the Hotel Reception, Tour Manager or your Local Guide. We regret that no refunds can be made for absences from a trip, including experiences such as missed meals or sightseeing. Strongly recommend to have personal travel insurance to cover these mishaps.

    What happens if an accident occurs while on the tour?

    Should you be involved in an accident (minor or major), please contact your Tour Manager / Local Guide. Unfortunately, no refunds can be made for absences from a trip, including experiences such as missed meals or sightseeing.

    Travel Insurance - Do I need travel insurance?

    We strongly recommend you travel with Travel Insurance from your country of residence. Kindly ensure you get the correct insurance for the tour.

    Can you provide travel insurance?

    There are various travel insurance providers in the market, however Sonatours does not provide Travel Insurance. 

    Meals - What meal options are available to me while on tour?

    Sonatours can cater for a range of Asian Vegetarian (e.g. Jain, Swaminarayan) as well as Asian Non-Vegetarian (Halal). Kindly advise your meal preference at the time of your booking.

    Where will I have my daily meals?

    On all tours Breakfast is at the Hotel and Dinners is at various Restaurants or hotels.

    Should I carry dry snacks?

    Dry snacks can be carried, provided they are pre-packed, and all the ingredients are clearly listed on the packaging. Please declare all food on the disembarkation card.

    Is Child meals or Baby food available during the tour?

    Sonatours do not provide specific child meals during the Tour. 
    As dietary requirements vary for every individual infant / child, please carry your baby’s food. 

    What is the cost of a local meal?

    On an average local meal costs about GBP £15-£20 per person per meal. 
    This estimated price varies from city to city and country to country.  

    Physically Challenged - Do you facilitate clients with disability?

    Sona Tours does not provide special tours for the disabled.
    Our coaches do not have wheelchair excess. 
    It is possible to bring along a folding type wheelchair which may be kept in the baggage hold of the coach. The driver will load and unload the wheelchair from the coach for the passenger however they will need to be physically fit enough to be able to embark and disembark the coach on their own. On the tour it is also essential that a capable person is accompanying such a passenger on the tour to push their wheelchair.

    Do I need to declare any special medical condition and requirements prior to booking the tour?

    Should you have pre - existing medical conditions or requirements (e.g. oxygen during flight or sleeping, colostomy bags, etc). Kindly advise the office at the time of booking.

    Rooms - How are rooms allocated?

    Each hotel checks their bookings and room inventory in the morning and pre-assigned the rooms.
    Sonatours have no control over room allocations. 

    Rooms together - Can you guarantee rooms together?

    Room allocation is done by the hotels. Rooms together only be requested but not guaranteed. 
    We also recommend that children or family members not sharing a room have separate luggage, as rooms cannot be guaranteed adjoining or nearby.

    Room Facilities - What facilities are there in the room?

    Facilities vary from Hotel to Hotel and include en-suite bathrooms, generally TV, safe box, telephone, mini bar, room service (use of some of the services are chargeable and to be settled by yourself at the time of checkout). 
    Hotels may require your credit card to cover your extras or cash deposits. 

    Will the room have walk in shower?

    Not all hotel rooms have walking showers.

    Does my room have Tea & Coffee making facilities?

    Please note that not all hotels provide tea/coffee in the room. 
    If hot water is required, kindly request the hotel reception for assistance. 

    Is smoking allowed in the hotels / rooms?

    Most hotels do not allow smoking in the rooms. However, designated smoking areas are provided. Please check with the hotel reception.

    Do all rooms have air-condition?

    Most rooms offer air-condition. 

    Will all hotels have lifts?

    Most of the hotels worldwide will have lifts. However, at some places Heritage Hotels or resorts are used. In such cases lifts cannot be guaranteed.  

    Child friendly - Can I travel with my child or infant?

    Sona Tours welcomes children and infants. The rates for children and infants for all the tours are available in the brochure and on the website. If your child requires a booster / child seat, please carry one.

    Is there a tour director on the tour?

    Escorted tours are accompanied by professional tour director or / and local guides throughout your itinerary. A number of itineraries include flights, rail journeys or cruises; Tour Director may not accompany during these journeys.
    In such situations, your Tour Director will meet you on arrival at your first destination. It may be necessary that your Tour Director may change whilst on tour; this is usually due to operational reasons or utilising local guides for their wealth of experience. 
    Please ensure you provide your mobile number that you will be carrying with you while on tour when making the booking; as the tour director will be contacting all passengers while on the tour.
    If minimum number of passengers has not been achieved, we will have a local guide. Sona Tours provides services of local tour guides to make sure you will get an unforgettable experience.

    How many people will be on my trip?

    Average group size are between 15 to 50 passengers but it may vary from departures to departures.

    Will I travel with people from other countries?

    Sonatours have offices in Kenya, India, USA and UK. The beauty of taking a guided holiday with us is you’ll have the opportunity to meet and travel with people from all over the globe.

    When does my day start?

    The day usually starts between 8 & 9am. Further instructions you will be given the night before. However, this may differ depending on the activity of the day or when having an early flight.

    How much walking is involved per day for the duration of the tour?

    As it a tour a certain amount of walking will be involved per day. In your tour approximate walking is 4 hours per day however, the walking is not all at one time.

    Will I have free time?

    Each itinerary offers the perfect balance of downtime and discoveries. We also give you the opportunity to tailor your trip with optional experiences. If you decide to venture on your own during your free time, preferably you go in a group, keep the guide contact and the hotel address handy. Please do inform the tour director. We recommend you download an offline map too.

    Are tips included?

    On all our group tours, tips for the guide & tour manager are included. However, should you wish to tip separately, you are welcome to do so at your discretion.

    What should I do if there is an incident?

    Sonatours make every effort to keep your health and safety in mind. However, should an unforeseen incident occur please contact your tour manager / local guide / hotel reception for immediate assistance.  

    What happens if I have lost or left something in the hotel?

    A: Every effort is made for your safety. Please note that you are responsible for looking after your valuables and property when on vacation. If an item has been left in a hotel you will need to call the hotel and arrange with them directly for the return of your item, there might be charges involved. 
    A. You are always advised not to carry unnecessary valuables and to be vigilant as tourist spots are well known targets for pickpockets. In case of theft you will need to advise your Tour Director immediately and report the theft to the nearest police personnel who will provide you with a police report or crime reference number.     Can I join the Sri Lanka tour from any part of the world?

    Yes, you can fly over to our first point of destination of the tour preferably a day earlier. Please do enquire the office to arrange your logistics for both your arrival and departure.
    Kindly note that there will be no reduction to the cost of your holiday in this case.
